History

Dahshi was named Da Kekan in antiquity. It has developed over 200 years, ever since the Ching Dynasty. Since it is convenient for transportation to and from Taipei City, it became a popular place for business. Towards the end of the Ching Dynasty, Dahshi rapidly developed, and with the export of tea and camphor, it prospered more and more. The era of Japanese rule was the golden age of Dahshi; unfortunately, after 1928, when excavations interfered with water transport, it gradually fell into a decline. In recent years, the relics of its culture, preserved and revived by the Taoyuan district government, make the days of its greatest prosperity live again for us.
Dahshi Artist Villa

On November 5, 2005, Dahshi Artist Villa held its grand opening as an art center, presided over by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taoyuan City Government. The main building was converted for artistic and cultural activities. It is divided into an exhibition space (the original Public Hall, 1932), an art gallery (the original Chiang Kai-Shek Chateau, 1950), an art studio, and a park area.
